Gloucester heroes to star in charity fundraiser
GLOUCESTER sportswear business Crouch and Hold are raising funds for Rugby for Heroes today by holding a corporate rugby touch tournament.
The event, from 11am to 7pm at Gordon League RFC in Hempsted, will see ex-Gloucester Rugby players feature in an exhibition game between the Crouch and Hold all-stars team and a Southern Hemisphere team.
Former Gloucester players expected to make an appearance in the match include Marcel Garvey, Ryan Lamb, Terry Fanalua, Anthony Allen, Rob Elloway, Henry Paul, Haden Thomas, Nick Runciman and Gareth Delve.
Twenty other corporate teams from businesses around the county will be taking part in the tournament, hoping to raise vital funds for Rugby for Heroes.
There is also a £1,000 cash prize for the winning team, so there is plenty at stake.
With free admission, a funfair and a karate demonstrations as well at the rugby, it promises to be a good day out.
There will also be live music playing throughout the day from Jennie Bellestar, formerly the lead singer in the 1980s girl band The Bellestars.
Their hits included Sign of the Times and The Clapping Song', and the day will also be filled with the sounds of soul, ska and reggae.
The owner of Crouch and Hold, Alan Lamb, said he was keen to raise as much money for the charity.
"Rugby for Heroes is a charity that is close to my heart, so we wanted to arrange an event that would raise money to help with the brilliant work that they do," he said.
"The idea of holding a rugby tournament seemed to be the ideal fundraiser as it offers the locals a fun day out for all ages while local businesses get the chance to raise money for a good cause and get their name seen."
