Gloucester pensioner 'let down' by Argos Direct
CHRISTMAS has been cancelled for pensioner Gordon Meek.
The Barnwood resident will spend a miserable day alone after being 'let down' by Argos Direct.
-

no visitors: Gordon Meek, 66, of Barnwood, who is angry about a faulty cooker he bought from Argos.
He has been wrangling with the company for almost two weeks to try and get his cooker replaced.
The 66-year-old has been told the appliance will finally be delivered today but said it will be 'too little too late'.

His son, daughter-in-law and five grandchildren were due to come round for a festive feast.
But they have had to make alternative plans for December 25 as Gordon cannot guarantee the cooker will be ready to cook them dinner.
"This has certainly screwed up Christmas for me without a shadow of a doubt, " Gordon said. "They don't want to sit around eating cold nuts and biscuits and I don't blame them."
He has been without a cooker for eight weeks after his old one broke.
A replacement costing £288.94 was ordered from Argos Direct and delivered by Indesit on December 11.
But Gordon quickly discovered it was a faulty and it was taken away again.
He was fuming when the companies then told him a replacement would not be with him until December 27.
And they could not refund him before then either so he could not go and purchase a cooker elsewhere.
"It's a diabolical state of affairs," he said.
"I'm diabetic and have a heart condition so need to eat a special diet and a cooker is the most important piece of equipment in my house."
After more than 30 phone calls Argos told him a new cooker will be delivered today.
But Gordon said it will come too late to save his Christmas Day and described it as a 'terrible advert' for the companies.
A spokesman for Argos said: "We have spoken with Mr Meek this morning to apologise and have arranged for a new oven to be sent.
"Argos will reimburse any costs incurred."

“Nice one HuckiePhil. I knew I heard his name before (sorry - read his name before). It does appear that he is a serial complainer”

“Ah, yes, shy retiring Gordon Meek, who never complains to TiG about anything, except this retailer. Oh, yes, and his electricity supplier. Eeeerm, and the police. Um, and cyclists. And... oh, just stick his name in the search bar abd see for yourself!
TiG - why not give this publicity-hungry little twerp his own column and be done with it?”

“I can honestly say I have nothing but good words to say about Argos Direct.
They have always been brilliant with me.
However, on the odd occasion something has gone wrong, I HAVEN'T gone to the local press, whingeing that it's ALL their fault.
As has been eloquently put by all previous comments, he has no need to be alone, Argos say it will be delivered today and will meet all costs, so that gives hime Sunday and Monday to learn how to cook his nuts!!!!!”

“It's only Saturday, Christmas Day is Tuesday so if it's delivered today how will that stop him cooking his Christmas dinner? Of course, it could be that the cooker has to be hard wired and not just plugged in. When my husband and I bought a new cooker we made sure it was just plug and go.
Regarding the article, isn't it a bit over the top to write "CHRISTMAS has been cancelled for pensioner Gordon Meek. The Barnwood resident will spend a miserable day alone after being 'let down' by Argos Direct"
Why should he be alone and why should a diabetic with a heart condition even be trying to cook for two adults and five children? How about the adults treating HIM to a nice Christmas dinner instead.”
