What to do with Gloucester prison, asks city estate agent
What a fantastic opportunity exists for Gloucester to do something exciting with the prison site.
If this is developed correctly it could make the development of Blackfriars far more interesting and help in connecting the city centre to the docks and Quays.
I have always been impressed with the docks' regeneration and now there is a real opportunity to do something more to improve this great city.
There is no doubt that if the prison is developed sympathetically this is going to have a positive effect on the area and on residential property prices at the docks. Along with the property market generally, prices have dropped at the docks over recent years but I have no doubt with this news and the continued development of the Quays, property prices at the docks will take a much more positive turn over the coming months.

I am delighted to say I do not know the internal layout of the prison and therefore any comments are subject to the suitability of the buildings. However, this is a perfect opportunity to move the police headquarters and adjoining offices into what could be a really interesting development and get rid of the appalling buildings they occupy at present. There is something quite appealing about the prison becoming the police headquarters. Others might say that if Gloucester City Council are moving out of their warehouses at the docks, the prison could be the perfect place for them. This would leave the warehouses available for conversion into more residential units.
Alternatively, is there an opportunity to do something similar to the Black Country Living Museum at Dudley? I do not know how that is funded but it appears to be a great asset to Dudley and would bring more visitors to Gloucester.
Flats? Offices? Hotel?
Maybe, but please whatever we do let's make it spectacular and something we can all be proud of.
I have heard one or two saying who would want to live or work at somewhere that was "The Prison"?
I think there is great kudos to be gained from its previous use and I just hope we make the most of it.
