Gloucester pupil set to travel to York after winning a place in national competition

A STUDENT from Gloucester has won a place in a prestigious national reading competition.

Emily Poole won the place after her success at last year's Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts.

She will travel to York today to take part in The Cranmer Awards, an annual competition run by the Prayer Book Society.

Emily, 15, a pupil at Barnwood Park Arts College, has to memorise three readings.

She said: "I am really nervous about today. It was easy to remember my lines because I have been doing drama since I was two-and-a-half years old.

"My goal is to carry on studying drama."

Emily has private tutoring from Jackie Chidzoy, from Cheltenham.

Jackie said: "Emily is a darling, she has done really well.

"She has done well to learn her lines, she has a photographic memory."
