"Just a few years ago men would turn their noses at them but I think people seeing them being worn on TV has helped to give the Christmas jumper a bit of a revival.

"I'm an 80s girl and I remember they were worn a lot then."

A worker at Primark, in Eastgate Street, said: "We sold out of Christmas jumpers and onesies ages ago."

The Citizen's readers have been sending in their festive pictures.

Andy Ling, from Highnam, slipped into his 'Merry Christmas' jumper, while Gloucester City Council leader Paul James sported his own.

Citizen staff even got involved. Receptionists Kate Smith and Kelly Lee and reporter Mike Wilkinson donned Santa hats while rugby reporter Will Wood sported festive knitwear.
