Gloucester's Nigel Davies: We don't roll over on our travels any more

WHILE defeat against Wasps at the weekend was disappointing, Gloucester have to be happy with six points from two difficult looking away trips.

Gloucester's away record this season eclipses anything they have produced in the last three or four campaigns – no longer are they a team that just rolls over away from Kingsholm.

Instead they can have confidence that there is real backbone in the team under Nigel Davies, and they were able to go to Wasps and pretty much dominate the opening part of the game.

Obviously Wasps came back into it and deserved the win in the end, but four tries and a losing bonus point cannot be sniffed at against a member of the top four.

The last two games have made what was looking like a tough period a lot more palatable.

I admit I was concerned about how Gloucester would do over the last two weeks with the number of players missing but the guys who have played really stepped up to the plate and proved me wrong.

Now they have to get some wins under their belts, starting with Worcester on Friday night which has traditionally been a bogey game for the Cherry and Whites.

Any sort of win against the Sixways outfit is a good one, and it's crucial Gloucester go into the game with a mindset of building a performance rather than hitting top gear from the very first minute.

Worcester are a team who need to be worn down up front before the backs are given the time and space to work their magic.

A major challenge for the Cherry and Whites is the short turnaround from the Wasps game on Sunday to Worcester on Friday night.

With two less days to prepare it puts the onus on quick recovery and speedy preparation, which can often knock a team out of its stride.

I hope Gloucester survived Adams Park without too many niggles and can now focus on putting in a performance against Worcester which sets them up for the Premiership run in and a full tilt at the top four.
