A Gloucester shopping centre says it is bucking the national trend when it comes to filling its shop units.
Eastgate Shopping Centre says it has vacancy rates of empty retail units four per cent lower than the national average.

Less vacant shops at the Eastgate
The national vacancy rate report, showing the numbers of empty retail units currently around the UK, recently showed that vacancy rates had fallen nationally from 14.3 per cent in 2011 to 14.2 per cent in 2012.
Vacancy rates released by the shopping centre show it currently has a 10 per cent vacancy rate.

Footfall figures from January at the centre were the same as they were in January 2012, despite the fact that high street footfall had fallen by 3.9 per cent year on year nationally.
The centre also says it is planning a refurbishment programme in the early part of this year.
Two new passenger lifts are to be installed, replacing the old glass lift, while refurbishments to the public areas are set to take shape in the summer months.
Centre manager Jason Robinson said: "We're incredibly proud to say that the centre is currently performing above the national average at such a difficult time for retail in general.
"We've really seen a great response from shoppers throughout the past 12 months to both new and old retailers at the centre.
"It's a testament to Gloucester's thriving retail scene that our vacancy rates are an impressive four per cent lower than the national average."

“If Goucester is bucking the national trend I hesitate to think what somewhere looks like that is failing. I'm sure native Gloucester readers here aren't so much in denial that they believe this?!
I visited the city for the first time on Thursday last week and my breath was taken away - but not in a good way I'm afraid. Like a forgotten tatty old town rather than a county town of a rural west country county.”

“Free Parking.
Now there's a novel idea. Worse case you lose 2 weeks parking revenue. Best case you get lots more people through the doors.........
Go on, you know you want to”

“It is good that they are filling the shopping units but it is also important to make note of the type of shops that are opening... people don't want to see any more 'Poundshops', there is nothing wrong with them but they do not do anything at all to upgrade the feel on the shopping area which lets be honest looks like a very depressing hangover from the 70s! The real solution is to knock most of it down and rebuild it all properly.”

“Nice upbeat story - But you have to pay to park to go there so I won't go. Out-of-town shopping areas, supermarkets and on-line shopping is where I go thesedays.”

“You should use adblock like I do - no popups or videos.
Still can't help with the hopeless grammar and spelling, however.”

“Dreadful new layout. Tacky logos everywhere. Unwanted links and annoying video pop-ups. Plus the usual typos, blunders and inaccuracies of course.”
