Gloucestershire 1 Rifles could go to Mali
Gloucestershire's soldiers are still waiting to hear whether they may be some of the 330 military personnel sent to Mali.
The Prime Minister announced this week British soldiers will be going to West Africa, where French and Malian forces having been driving back Islamist rebels.
However, it is unclear whether anyone from the Gloucestershire-based 1 Rifles will be among the African-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA).
An Army spokesman said: "As part of prudent planning to support the EU training Mission and AFISMA the Army has placed a pool of forces on a reduced notice to move.

Up to 40 military personnel will take part in a European Union mission to train Malian soldiers, which will last for up to 15 months.
A further 200 British troops will be on a separate training mission outside of Mali.
Government critics are already concerned Mali could become the next Afghanistan as fears grow it could be a long and drawn-out deployment to fight against al Qaeda. But David Cameron has ruled out a combat role for the UK forces.
