A FORMER royal chef convicted of assault is still on the run.

Steffan Sjolander, who worked for Princess Anne for two years, was convicted of threatening and assaulting one of her grooms a year ago.

An arrest warrant was issued for him on January 23 last year after magistrates convicted him in his absence of three offences against Gatcombe Park groom Amy Tyrrell.

But on the first anniversary of his conviction, Sjolander remains at large – believed to be in his native Sweden.

Sjolander was convicted at Gloucester Magistrates' Court of common assault on Miss Tyrrell, 28, threatening behaviour towards her and affray.

He had threatened Miss Tyrrell with a pair of pincers, saying he would cut off her nipples. He also gripped her by the arm and threatened to kill her – and then held a pair of scissors to her face.

When they issued a warrant for his arrest, the magistrates said they would consider jailing him when he was caught.

They urged the prosecution to seek an international arrest warrant in Sweden if he was not found in the UK.

Sjolander, whose last known UK address was in Brockworth, had attended the court in November 2008 to deny the three charges. His trial was then fixed for January, but he did not show up.

Miss Tyrrell told the court Sjolander was often drunk at work and, when he had been drinking, was aggressive.

After the case, Gloucestershire Police said Sjolander had been sacked following his arrest.
