A Firefighter from Cirencester has been honoured for helping at a major accident.

Great Western Ambulance Service gave Lionel McCrea a special award for the aid he gave a paramedic when a motorcyclist collided with a car in the Cotswolds last summer.

The motorbike rider had to be released from under the car and was given CPR by Mr McCrea, working closely with the paramedic to help keep him alive until he was airlifted to hospital.

Mr McCrea said: “I was just doing what I am trained to do. You don’t have time to think, the training just kicks in.”

He received a Chief Ambulance Officer Commendation for his actions.

Gloucestershire chief fire officer, Terry Standing, said: “I’m delighted our colleagues in the ambulance service want to honour Lionel in this way.

“I am proud to be presenting the certificate to such a dedicated firefighter.”
