Gloucestershire's Simon Pegg as Scotty in the new Star Trek film
The first picture has emerged of Simon Pegg boldly going where no Brockworth man has gone before in his new Hollywood role.
The 38-year-old comedy actor is starring in the latest
Star Trek
movie due out next year.
Playing Captain Kirk's engineer Scotty, he features alongside a crop of young talent who portray the Starship Enterprise's first mission.
The £75million extravaganza is the 11th movie adaptation of the classic 1970s TV series.
Directed by JJ Abrahms, creator of
Lost,
it's due out next May and stars Chris Pine as Kirk as a cadet and Zachary Quinto, of
Heroes
fame, playing the young Spock.
Leonard Nimoy is the only member of the original cast to appear – as Spock Snr.
Pegg is currently the golden boy in Hollywood having appeared in a string of films including
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People
,
Run, Fatboy, Run
, and
Hot Fuzz
.
And his latest outing is a long way away from his days at Brockworth Enterprise School.

“Actually the original Scotty came from Shurdington. Knew him well, he use to ride an old butchers bike to the pub every Saturday night. Then of course he had the plastic surgery, learnt that awful Scots accent and worked his passage across the water in the engine room of a container ship. The rest is history.”

“My other half and I always have a good moan if there is a Simon Pegg or Blur Cheesemaker story in the papers. It used to be Sharon Davies and Anne Robinson. Liz Hurley also crops up from time to time. Just because they have some sort of connection with gloucestershire doesn't mean we need to hear about them in the paper every time they breathe in or breathe out.”

“I agree Laura - everytime Simon Pegg sets foot outside his house The Citizen think everyone wants to know about it - just because he went to school round here years ago. There seems to be a different story every week about the bloke.”

“Nice to see my earlier comment was deleted. I was stating the truth about this being an old story. I love Simon Pegg and all his work but I don't feel this is news..”

“it can't be about the first mission of the Starship Enterprise - as the ships first mission was commanded by Captain Robert April. Unless of course we are expected to believe the future crew served aboard as cadets - I wonder?
Did the main crew even meet before they were assigned. We know Spock served on Enterphise under her 2nd Captain, Christopher Pike, before he met Kirk!... Onthe whole I am confused.”
