Gold Cup glamour with WEEKEND stylist Kate Parker
Q. I have previously worn a fascinator to Cheltenham Festival, but this time around I would like to progress to a hat. I'm not sure where to start. What do you suggest?
A. Looking for my own Ladies' Day hat, I headed to Lock & Co Hatters in London.
They have a fantastic selection of designs and colours and I wanted to try on as many styles as possible, which I suggest you do too.
Their collection starts with more casual styles, including trilbies and fedoras. This leopard print one is £259. There is also a fabulous hat-a-porter range (Siren magenta, £295). Plus, a beautiful couture collection featuring this burnt orange sculptural design (£785).

Designer, Sylvia Fletcher believes getting an expert opinion is invaluable.
"We can all have a fixed view of what we are looking for. An expert will be objective and take into account your proportions, colouring and personality.
"This means you are far more likely to choose something you will feel comfortable in. They will also show you how to position it. Often we perch them on the back of the head, rather than sitting it further forward."
Their website www.lockhatters.co.uk features a model walking in each design showing how the hat should sit and look at every angle.
Lock & Co will also have a stand in the shopping area at the racecourse during The Festival – I can feel another 'play' coming on.
Q. I have just received a last minute invitation to The Festival and haven't got anything suitable in my wardrobe. I am a busy career woman and don't have time to trawl the shops. I would be happy to buy something new, but want to be able to wear it again later. Ideally, I would like a dress with sleeves.
A. A good place to head would be the Monday Boutique in Cirencester. They have a great selection of 'Diva' dresses in a rainbow of colours and a variety of styles – a number of which have sleeves. Think Roland Mouret and Victoria Beckham, which is where these fab feminine dresses take their inspiration.
Nigella Lawson is a huge fan and admits to having a wardrobe-full.
The stretch fabric means they are ultra-comfortable, don't crease and have the added benefit of being machine washable – so not at all diva like in fact.
Shown here are the Allegra dress in red (£165), Beth navy (£130) and Monaco in blue (£120).
To ensure you have a beautiful smooth silhouette, they also stock Fabody – a full Lycra slip (£29.50) which promises not to ride up.
They will even hire you a hat, or sell you a fascinator, if you feel so inclined. A one-stop-shop for a busy lady.
