Grand Designs on Cashes Green Hospital site
TV presenter Kevin McCloud is keen to bring ideas from his programmes to the old Cashes Green Hospital site.
Mr McCloud, whose Grand Designs on Channel 4 follow ambitious UK building projects, said he wanted to introduce innovations he had seen and learned about during his series to his company Hab's redevelopment.
Hab, housing group GreenSquare and Gloucestershire Land for People have formed the Hab Oakus partnership to deliver a flagship, sustainable, 78-home project on the long-redundant former NHS land.
Mr McCloud, who was at Cashes Green Youth and Social Centre for a public discussion of the proposals, said he was especially excited by working in the real world, saying: "There is a tremendous receptiveness in Stroud to some of the ideas we are trying to promote.
"This is my project in the real world.
"I am not interested in using it as a promotional device.
"What I am interested in is trying to bring some of the ideas."
Mr McCloud said he was not planning to use the Cashes Green scheme in a future TV show, although the production company responsible "might well yet".
Thanks to the involvement of landowners the Government's Homes and Communities Agency, the flagship project will include 39 affordable homes.
More than 100 people attended the exhibition. The next consultation meeting will be at the same venue on October 19.
