Grand National winner Carl Llewellyn joins John Smith's Aintree Legends Charity Race

Carl Llewellyn will line up alongside an elite group of classic winning jockeys on Saturday, April 6 for the John Smith’s Aintree Legends Charity Race.

Llewellyn, who lives in Naunton, won the Grand National twice with Party Politics in 1992 and Earth Summit in 1998.

The John Smith’s Aintree Legends Charity Race is the first on the Saturday card and runs on the flat over 1m 5f. It will be broadcast live on Channel 4.

The Aintree Legends Race, which is now in its third year, has raised more than £150,000 for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

Champion, who won the 1981 Grand National on Aldaniti, said: “Once again we have a fantastic line-up of both jumps and flat jockeys, with more than 17,000 career victories between them.

“Grand National day is one that will always be special to me and I can’t think of a better way than to celebrate my 1981 win and personal triumph over cancer than with this race.

“It will help raise much needed funds for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.”
