Grandparents’ Day began as a campaign led by West Virginia resident Marian McQuade. She had grown up seeing how hard her grandmother worked for her own family as well as for the local community and believed that a national holiday should be set aside for grandparents all over the world. Since then the occasion has across the globe and this year will be celebrated in the UK on Sunday 7th October.
