Guinness the parrot has leg amputated
UNLUCKY Guinness the parrot has had to have one of her legs amputated.
It is the latest blow for the Twyning-based bird, who needs cataract operations on her eyes to stop her going blind.

Guinness and Paul Forman
An Echo story last week has since led to £250 worth of donations being sent to her keepers, Christine and Paul Forman, at the Safehaven Parrot Refuge.
The couple had appealed for financial help as they tried to cover the £3,000 cost of a first cataract operation on November 26.

Mrs Forman said she and her husband were very grateful to everyone who donated money.
But she said the serious setback to Guinness happened when another of the birds at the refuge bit her on her right leg.
She said: "They do scrap like children and at first we thought it was just a bite that would heal.
"But it turned out that it had fractured the leg and the vet amputated it on Saturday.
"She's on antibiotics, a pain killer and is eating well, but now there is a question mark over whether she can have the operation on Monday."
The Formans think Guinness, who originates from the Amazon, but was shipped to England in 1998, is aged between 40 and 45.

“little old lady, who mentioned corneas? The bird is having a cataract operation, so presumably will have a plastic lens placed inside each eye.
I do wonder why a broken leg necessitated an amputation, though.”

“What an unbalanced report.
If she loses her other leg she'll be ******* around, legless. Could the old bill nick her for having no visible means of support?”

“Think about it - where do you get the corneas from for the graft? They must be quite scarce! And there is no parrot NHS...”
