WHEN Stephen Fellows was told to order currency for his holiday to Mexico online he thought it would be quick and easy.

But it left him with days of worry and almost £100 out of pocket.

Mr Fellows, from Longlevens needed, to get some Mexican peso for his trip this month, but when he went into his Halifax branch in Westgate Street, Gloucester, he was told to do it online. He did just that, but the bank ended up taking two sums of money out, leaving him £90.23 worse off.

The 54-year-old said: "I went home and ordered 11,000 Mexican pesos, which came to £602.29 which was fine. I did it all okay and I thought it had gone through but when I checked the website there was no confirmation, then I checked my email but there was no confirmation email.

"Then my computer crashed, so I went back on and there was still no confirmation so I did it again. Again, I had no confirmation of my booking, which I thought was odd as most computer ordering systems send you an email or something.

"So I went into my branch and was reassured by the cashier that it had all gone through and I should collect my money on February 16."

But when Mr Fellow, who works as a driver for Tesco, went into Halifax to collect it, he had a shock.

"I went in, which was when they dropped the bombshell that two lots had gone out.

Exchange

"They said I could get a refund but only at the exchange rate. Which I found out was only £512.06, I just hit the roof. It was essentially not my fault and I am £90 out of pocket, it is ridiculous. I just want my money back."

Mr Fellow said the money would have been used for parking or petrol for his holiday.

He added: "This is the first and last time I do it online."

A Lloyds TSB spokeswoman said: "As a gesture of goodwill, we have agreed to buy-back one of the transactions and also reimburse Mr Fellows for the outstanding amount as a result of the new currency exchange rate. We will be writing to Mr Fellows to inform him of our gesture."
