Hanging basket challenge by green-fingered postmistress

A POSTMISTRESS reckons her hanging baskets are the best in Gloucester, throwing down the gauntlet for other garden lovers in the city.

Manchooleswary Retnarajah's colourful array at Linden Post Office, which she has run for nine years, has a popular following among customers of the Seymour Road branch.

Last week The Citizen challenged hanging basket owners to send in their pictures after 42-year-old gardener Martin Durrant, from Althorp Close, Tuffley, said his were the best.

Mrs Retnarajah, who developed her passion for gardening in her home country of Sri Lanka, said: "I have been planting flowers at the post office since I arrived here but this year I was a bit late with them and my customers were asking after them.
