Veteran Ford shrugs off rivals to top the rankings

MARTIN Ford claimed his fourth consecutive British Masters Vet 65 5k Road Championship with another excellent performance in Horwich.

The 68-year-old was pleased to defend his title against younger rivals who moved up from the 60-64 age group.

Ford's time of 18 minutes and 35 seconds also places him at the top of the national rankings for the distance.

Andy Prophett led Cheltenham Harriers to team victory as he finished third in 16.10 at the White Horse 5k road race in Gloucester.

Ben Price ran well to take sixth place in a personal best of 16.32 with training partner Roger Mullins two seconds behind in seventh and Russell Forsbrook taking ninth in 16.44.

The victorious six-man team was completed by Darren Jordan who returned from injury with a 17.13 for 13th and Elliot Prince with 17.48 for 17th.

Jane Thomas was the seventh lady home in a PB of 20.00 as she finished eight seconds behind Dave Hemmings while Gavin Cotter made a welcome return to racing in 21.14.

Dan Owen claimed three victories as Cheltenham Harriers Under-20 team finished second in their junior league match at Aberdare.

Owen followed up his 59.66 win in the 400m hurdles with victories in the 1500m in 4.19.07 and 200m steeplechase in 6.43.32.

Lizzie Sandham also enjoyed a middle distance double as she won the 800m in 2.46.80 and 1500m in 5.37.54 while there was a throws double for Annabel Sherry with 33.04 in the discus and 12.82m in the shot.

Back on the track Hannah Foward won the 400m in 61.02 seconds and Emily Pascoe won the 100m hurdles in 15.99.

There was a double Harriers victory in the pole vault with Rupert Dickinson claiming the men's event with 2.20m and Jess Collins clearing 2.00m to win the women's event.
