Shopkeepers in Gloucester are hoping the magic of Harry Potter results in a tourism boom following the release of the latest film.

Parts of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, released at cinemas on July 15, was shot against the backdrop of the city's Norman Cathedral.

Shop owners are hoping that Harry (pictured) will wave a magic spell over Gloucester encouraging more people to visit. Colin Nyland, who runs tours for Gloucester Civic Trust, said: "It always helps. We do notice an increase in numbers when the films are out and hopefully it will be no different this time."

Christine Hughes, manager at Golden Vale Pictures, based near the cathedral, has noticed higher footfall when the previous films have hit the cinema screens. She said: "It has been busier in the past, and I think the city will be busier soon too because of the film."

Aunt Sally's sweet shop on Westgate Street are also anticipating a slight increase in trade. Sally Kennaby, who works at the shop, said: "Trade was slightly up when the last film was out, and hopefully it will be again."

Graham Walker, CEO for marketing Gloucester ltd, said: "The release of the latest film is bound to generate an influx of visitors to the city which will in turn generate income for local shops, pubs and restaurants."

Mark Owen, Chairman of the Gloucester branch of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: "I think that many people will come here simply to follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter, but once here will fall under the spell of the city's other attractions."

Meanwhile, Cotswolds and Royal Forest of Dean Tourism has published a stylish new TV and Film Location Map, to coincide with the movie launch.

It has been produced in response to visitors who wanted details of where certain movies and TV shows were filmed. It's available free of charge from local Tourist Information Centres, and can also be downloaded from www.cots wolds.com
