GLOUCESTERSHIRE Royal Hospital may well have had to open an extra ward to accommodate patients (The Citizen, September 5), but it is not because Tewkesbury is closed.
Far from it. The old hospital is still open and although the number of in-patients has been reduced over the weeks from 50, there are now 17 in-patients awaiting transfer into the new hospital when it finally opens.
There are only 20 beds in the new hospital because it was deemed that they should be predominantly for patients from Tewkesbury district, so there will be only three beds currently available in the new hospital – for Tewkesbury area residents.
