THE future of a new school on the Cooper’s Edge estate could be shaped by Brockworth and Hucclecote residents.

The organisations involved in building the school will host drop-in sessions so residents  can view early concept designs for the new primary school,  which will open in September

2011.

Judith Shackell, vice chairwoman of the Cooper’s Edge School Parent Community Group, said: “We are delighted that we will be able to offer this opportunity to have a  say in what the new school will look like and the facilities it will provide.

“It has always been important  to the CESPCG to reach out to  new members and we hope that these drop-in sessions will be an opportunity for people to come along and learn more about our work.

“When we wrote our proposal we promised to continue to consult with the community throughout the implementation process and this is one of many ways which we will be offering them the chance to be involved.”

The drop-in sessions will be held on the school site in the CESPCG’s office, which will be erected tomorrow.

Members of the public are  invited to sessions on May 17  from 10am-noon, May 19 from  7-9pm and on May 22 from 1-3pm.

People also have the opportunity to comment on the design and build via a blog on the Coopers Edge School website: www.coopersedgeschool.co.uk

Joanne Vickers, chairwoman of the CESPCG, said: “We want to make sure that the school grows at the right pace to meet the needs of the development, therefore we ask residents fill in at return the survey, whether or not they have children that might come to the school,” she said.

The temporary governing body of the school was formed on May 1 and will be holding its first meeting this month.

Meanwhile, there is a vacancy for a parent governor, and those wanting to find out more are asked  to contact the group via their website.

The school is being developed by Gloucestershire County Council, The Cooper’s Edge School Parent Community Group, The Robinswood Trust, E G Carters and Roberts Limbrick architects.
