Callum Babbage pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with the child, who was aged between eight and 11 at the time of the attacks.
Gloucester Crown Court heard 19-year-old Babbage from Tennyson Road, Hester's Way, made admissions to social workers about the historical assaults, which started when he was 10 and ended when he was 13.
Prosecutor Kannan Siva said: "He made admissions when he was told by social service nothing would come of it.

"She was a very young victim and it was on a regular basis over a number of years.
"It started with kisses and cuddles and then progressed. She thought at the time it was normal.
"When she disclosed what had happened she said she felt uncomfortable at the time, but it was not until she was much older she realised it was wrong.
"It started out as experimental and has had a significant damaging effect."
Defending Sarah Jenkins said: "He did not appreciate the seriousness of his contact but he knew he was doing something wrong because he felt the need to hide his behaviour from adults."
Judge William Hart gave Babbage a 12-month community order with supervision.
He was also given a restraining order to not contact the girl for the next five years.
