OLD CENTRALIANS 3 CONEY HILL 29

A MORE physical Coney Hill side had too much power for Old Centralians as they lifted their sixth consecutive Junior Cup.

The cup holders bossed the breakdown and contact area and time after time smashed their way through the heart of the Cents midfield.

Containing a handful of players who had tasted first-team action in National Three South West, Hill always had too much for their opponents.

But Cents made a goods fight of it and the scoreline could have been closer if they had taken their second-half chances.

Cents kicker Ross Stevens missed his first shot at goal after two minutes and Hill made them pay six minutes later with the first of four tries.

From the back of a five-metre scrum, Pete Richards broke away and set up fly half Ryan Barnett top ghost through the gap created to score.

The stand-off added the simple conversion to lead 7-0 and four minutes later they had their second score.

Following a strong pick and go by the forwards in the corner lock Gary Preen came up with the ball, with Barnett impressively converting.

Cents eventually got on the board after 26 minutes with Stevens kicking a penalty before the fly half failed to add to it six minutes later when he hit the bar.

However, Barnett stretched their lead further with a penalty of his own on 39 minutes to lead 17-3 at half-time.

Hill started the second half the stronger with Kev Lock scoring their third try after a great break and off-load by Darren Carr on 43 minutes.

Barnett put the kick wide but 13 minutes later and Hill were out of sight when they grabbed their fourth and final try.

Some tired Cents legs could not stop Rob Thorn smashing through the middle of the park and going over near the posts handing Carr an easy kick.

But the last quarter of the game belonged to Cents with Hill's Richards sin-binned for collapsing the maul.

Cents were running riot against a seven-man pack but the Hill defence could not be pierced.

Twice they were denied straightforward scoring chances through simple handling errors which would have made the final score more respectable.
