Council Leader, Paul James, said: "This is an historic moment.
"It officially commits all of us to working to make this development happen. It shows that Gloucester is continuing to buck the national trend as we attract inward investment of this magnitude and it shows our commitment to improving the city centre – something which residents viewed as a high priority in the recent City Vision consultation.
"Developers and investors recognise what has been achieved in the city over the last few years and are alive to the opportunities that still exist."

“Who's been giving negative votes to gloscat? That's a perfectly reasonable point about bike racks.
As far as I know, the main part of King's Square will be built on, and there will be two very small squares instead. Pathetic.”

“Maybe build a great big bong for all the druggies, and a bouncy castle for them to lollop about on - get them from their perch outside Debenhams. They can't move too far away from the post office, that's where they cash their Girocheque which we work for.”

“FreeRadical1.
Yes, King's Square will be built on, but, as I understand it, a new ''square'' will be built further over towards the multi storey car park beside the bus station . The new small cinema and restaurant etc will go on what is now King's Square .”

“Good point, NibNobs. The last I heard, Aviva still owned the Golden Egg, and were daggers-drawn with both Stanhope and the city council. That explains why they kept putting in planning applications for the building but didn't carry them out. Aviva had previously been promised that they could redevelop King's Square, as they own many of the buildings. Then the council changed its mind and did a deal with Stanhope for a completely different redevelopment than the one that the public had said that they wanted during the consultations. What's the point of pretending to consult with the public? They just go ahead and do what they like. If the current plan gets the go-ahead, King's Square will no longer exist, as most of it will be built on. Do you lot realise this?”
