MENTAL health services will return to Gloucester's Holly House.

A campaign to save the facility at Saintbridge was lost when the NHS wanted to use the site to build a new community hospital.

But yesterday NHS bosses announced a plan to use Holly House as a recovery site for mental health patients.

The services at the West Lodge Drive site will be provided in high quality accommodation.

NHS Gloucestershire and 2gether NHS Foundation Trust said it will be used to help people regain skills and support independent daily living.

Shaun Clee, chief executive of 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Holly House's excellent location means that we can enhance our existing mental health provision."

Councillor Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "It will make a big difference to patients who currently have to go outside of Gloucestershire for their treatment."

“It is good news that Holly House will be used, however, there appears to be as usual with top NHS brass a lack of forward thinking, and planning. If it was sold in 2010 by 2gether to the PCT, then 2 years later bought back, where is the long term planning rather than short term financial gains?
This is public money so why undisclosed, and what happened to the £4.2m? Looking at the together accounts looks like it went on chief execs and directors pensions, and increasing the backroom staff at the trust HQ......
Take note of what happened at Stafford where more emphasis was put on ticking boxes than frontline care!”

“A bit of common sense at last!

Holly House is in Coney Hill, by the way.”

“Excellent news ! It's seemed to be such a waste of a much needed facility to have been left unused . It will also help families and carers too as they might not need to do so much travelling too and fro when visiting their loved ones .”
