Hopes for 8 road schemes
MILLIONS of pounds will be sought for eight key transport schemes in Gloucestershire.
The county council is tabling separate bids for much-needed cash to sort out projects including the A40 Over roundabout, improvements to the A419 between Stroud and Junction 13 of the M5, the heavily congested C&G and Walls roundabouts in Gloucester and LED street lighting among others.
The authority is seeking the cash via the newly formed Local Transport Body (LTB), made up of the council, the Local Enterprise Partnership and Leadership Gloucestershire.
Councillor Chas Fellows, member for planning, economy and environment, said: "Implementing these schemes would make a real difference to people living and working in the county and to the county's future economic growth, by reducing journey times or improving public transport."

“Oh.
I missed your link in your last post and have just been having a look safeandnice. Quite like the idea of improving Over roundabout, and the Bus Station (which I thought was part of the Kings Quarter redevelopment anyway).
Interesting to see a 'Quedgeley Parkway' being mooted as well. I have heard of a station suggested south of Gloucester before now but didn't think it was being given any kind of consideration. Of course, I would have rather seen Gloucester's main station moved to the triangle, facing the mainline and the south wales line, but that is highly unlikely anymore.”

“Agree about the A38, it should be Dual carriageway all the way from Tewkesbury to Gloucester. I also think the A4019 from the A38 into Cheltenham should also be dual carriageway and whilst they are at it upgrade Junction 10 to a proper junction.
But surely the number one priority must be the 'missing link' on the A417. I have to say I don't travel it very often, and have only got caught up in rush hour traffic once, but it was a nightmare, I wouldnt like to do it everyday.”

"It's only an advisory cycle lane road wombat ( it's dashed). You'll see slow tractors travelling half in it so as to allow faster traffic to pass. Agree about the double box tick.
The A38 should be the main local road between Tewkesbury and Gloucester. The M5 should be for non-local traffic in and out of the region. One is the back up if the other is closed."
Yes but you wont see the usually old fools driving at 20 mph pull over! And I am 57 but look to running at 50/40 within the limit safely enough!
I think reducing duel carriageways like this should be illegal as with traffic increasing what stupidity!”

“You'll also see that changing it to one lane also made room for a cycle lane (and we see lots of people using that, don't we?). It was a double whammy for Highways because in one swoop they completed several miles of their cycle-lane target for that year, simply by putting down a bit of paint.”

“RoadWombat - yes, the A38 is a mess. I didn't realize that was why previously dual-carriageway sections were reduced to single lane many years ago. Southbound after the Odessa traffic lights, the seam between the two strips of surfacing is an utter shambles - constantly breaking out, constantly patched, constantly breaking out again. It looks like it's been used for carpet bombing practice in places.
Glos. Highways should be taken to task over it - it's time it was PROPERLY repaired, and that means full resurfacing, not sticking plaster patches which are a total waste of time, effort, materials and MONEY. Even the section between the B4213 traffic lights & Coombe Hill which is still dual carriageway is poor, and in need of resurfacing.
So the potential for lots of road schemes over the coming years, if you also add in J10 on the M5, the Air Balloon / Nettleton Bottom / "Missing Link" ongoing HA fiasco, plus the works on the A40 Golden Valley / Elmbridge Court roundabout in conjunction with the new P&R. Alternatively, in 10 years time we'll still be talking about these schemes, and lamenting that they STILL haven't been brought to fruition...”

“Rather than wasting money on silly 'schemes', how about getting the roads we already have into decent shape first?
A few years down the line, all this new work will be in need of repair (because you won't have done it properly in the first place) and we'll be even worse off than we are now.
For example, the A38 between Gloucester and Tewkesbury is STILL single lane (the reason being that the road surface and kerbs are in too poor a state to take faster traffic as a dual carriageway). Just because people have got fed up complaining about it doesn't make it right!”
