Double victories as young Harriers kick off campaign
THE Harriers young athletes opened their league season with a six-team fixture at Yate.
In the Under-17 boys events there were double victories and personal-best performances from Linton Gardiner and Adam Wheeler.
Gardiner cleared 3.65m in the pole vault and clocked 15.1 in the 100m hurdles while Wheeler set personal-best marks of 12.12 in the triple jump and 6.77m in the long jump.
Further victories in the age group came from Rhys Lloyd, who lowered his 800m PB to 2.04.7, and Matt Parr with 5.17.9 in 1500m steeplechase.

The Under-17 girls team also impressed with Megan Barrett claiming a 200m and 300m sprint double in times of 26.6 and 42.0 seconds respectively.
Harriet Sawle ensured it was a sprint treble for the Harriers as she won the 100m in 13.2 and Mollie Courtney lowered her personal best to 12.3 seconds to win the 80m hurdles.
In the field Kira Cooper won the javelin with 30.25m and Katy Townsend won the long jump with 5.06m.
In the Under-15 age group Imran Quereshi claimed two victories with a PB clearance of 2.75m in the pole vault and a 5.87m in the long jump.
And was also a sprint double for Ben Clarke as he won the 100m in 12.2 and 200m in 24.4.
Chris Bell-Hartley won the 80m hurdles in 11.7 seconds while Charlie Vanhoa set a PB of 39.25m to win the javelin.
In the Under-15 girls events Melissa Bird won the discus with 28.65m while the only Harriers victory for the Under-13s went to Jamie Worman with 1.36m in the high jump.
