The rescue operation
A fire crew from Tewkesbury and an animal rescue team from Gloucester spent an hour freeing the horse.

Chief fire officer Jon Hall told his Twitter followers that it had been a "nasty tussle" and a battle in which "the gate lost".
Station commander Steve Bateman said: "It was a great example of a calm, controlled rescue with the end result being a safe, uninjured animal and very pleased owners.
"This is a result of the introduction of specialist training and equipment to aid large animal rescues."

“Nice to know lennieb, that Bert is doing fine after getting himself into a bit of a pickle. Was it a field of carrots on the other side of "that" gate he was trying to break into !!”

“Bert is fine after his ordeal with the gate which came of worse!!! Unfortunately his front legs managed to get over the gate but his back legs failed to follow!! He was a star and didn't panic he stood patiently and waited for the fire & rescue to come and free him from his predicament.
A great big thank you to all that helped.
As for bert he is fine think he will be a little sore in the morning!!
From very grateful owners.”

“"A crazed horse." Talk about trying to "big up" a story, I suspect the horse managed to get its leg caught in the gate, and panicked trying to free itself. Good work as usual by the fire service, who managed to free the horse without making a drama out of a crisis.”
