Horse killed on busy road
A horse was killed when it strayed onto a main road near Stow-on-the-Wold today.
The chestnut horse was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A424 Burford Road between Wyck Hill and traffic lights at the bottom of the A429 Stow Hill at around 8.15am.

The animal, owned by a resident in Coventry, was being stabled in the area.
The Mercedes lorry, being driven by a 55-year-old man from the Oxford area, was half full of milk cartons.
The load was intact and the driver uninjured, but the horse died of its injuries.
A member of the public moved the animal from the road and it was later taken away.
Police investigations are continuing.

“Union man....what planet are you on? No one was hurt but a horse was killed. There is no need for compensation claims etc but your name gives you away as being someone who would always push for money.”

“Unfortunately animals do not realise the consequences of wandering into a road. Animals can escape through human error, acts of vandalism or just pure inquisitiveness. It is very sad that this horse was lost and pure luck that no human was seriously injured. If it was owned by someone responsible and the stables it was kept at had adequate insurance they would have been covered against public liability .”
