Improvements to disabled services have been given the go ahead by Gloucestershire County Council.

There are currently four children's homes in Gloucestershire, two are managed by Gloucestershire County Council and two are managed by an independent provider.

Plans have now been approved for a new contract that will mean all four homes are managed by a single organisation.

This will enable the service to become more flexible in how it meets the needs of disabled children and young people and their families.

Alison Cathles, commissioning project manager, Aiming High for Disabled Children, said: "As this will be a large contract covering the operation of all children's homes across the county we believe it will be attractive to a number of providers, including the best providers."

    “Well said John .

It's a good start , but a lot more needs to be done to recognise and understand the daily problems endured by those less fortunate than ourselves.
Equality , should mean equality for all and not put things on the backburner just because to resolve issues would be ''complicated or be too costly'' .”

“It is a worthy purpose and good to see improvements. There are lots of disabled who deserve a better start off in life to get them going. There are many forms of impairment but it needs recognising lots of these children are truly gifted individuals who have no desire to be treated or labelled as ¿Cripples¿. When given proper nurture many will cultivate their latent gifts and earn a living as well as earn respect within the community for us all. By nature of the hurdles disablement causes a person it can also provides the basis for achievement. Finally we should recognise there is no such thing as a Normal Person. Each person is an individual and we simply need include one and all for a better and more vibrant society.”
