IT is a love that has endured 52 years.

And Lesley and Forbes Hadden have spent only a few days apart since they met one Saturday night in 1961.

The pair, who live in Charlton Kings, met in London, at a dinner dance.

A tall Forbes asked the young Lesley to dance and, as she was also tall and quite often frustrated with having to dance with men who were shorter than her, she was delighted to say yes. She was slightly disappointed to find out he wasn't much of a dancer, yet if she was let down by the dancing, Mrs Hadden said she certainly wasn't upset by the conversation.

The pair went up to the balcony at the club, where they ran into a friend of Mr Hadden who was dating a girl who Mrs Hadden had been friends with at school.

The four spent the evening chatting at the club, in Streatham, London, and Mr Hadden, who later became a golf professional, escorted her home and arranged to see her the following Tuesday – just four days later.

But Cupid's arrow had already hit its mark, and Mr Hadden decided he couldn't wait to see Lesley again.

"At 7am the following day, the telephone rang," said Mrs Hadden.

"My mother said it was for me.

"It was Forbes. He said he couldn't wait until Tuesday to see me and could he see me again then."

The pair met up that day.

"Apart from when work took Forbes away, we've been together every day ever since," said Mrs Hadden.

They moved to Cheltenham 49 years ago. Mr Hadden worked at Lilley Brook Golf Club, giving lessons and running the shop, before retiring in 2005. Mrs Hadden used to caddy for her husband, who played professionally throughout the UK, as well as visiting America, France, Sardinia and Spain to play on holiday.

She also used to run a golf shop for him at Lilley Brook Golf Club, just outside Cheltenham, when he was abroad.

The pair married a year later and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March 2012.
