AN INSPIRED performance from captain Scott Gourley gave Cheltenham Saracens their first Midland Floodlit League win of the season.

With new signing, Hartpury College student, Tom Weedon making his debut on the left wing, Saracens immediately found their best form.

Jake Ellmore's early header went just wide after three minutes and Saracens soon settled nicely into a pass and move rhythm.

Saracens were at their best spreading their passes around and continued to pressure the Pershore back line defence, which eventually caved in and Saracens went ahead after eight minutes.

A superb run by Gourley through the heart of the midfield, went unchallenged and his shot from 20 yards flew in to the net, giving the Pershore keeper no chance.

Solid defending by the Saracens back line, ensured that the visitors enjoyed a great deal of possession.

And from that spell of quality ball, Saracens should have extended their lead, but Kurtis Burrows was guilty of missing chances and Brad Bernard hit the cross bar in the final moments of the first half.

Saracens extended their lead ten minutes after the re-start with Burrows making amends for earlier missed and neatly lifting home goal number two.

2-0 soon became 3-0 with Weedon getting on the score sheet while Ellmore grabbed the fourth following a fine pass by substitute Jack Kelly.

A Saracens clean sheet was denied though ten minutes before full time when a long ball by Pershore caught the Saracens defence flat and Pershore scored with a close range finish but it was no more than a consolation for the hosts.
