Investigation launched into luxury lakeside pad fire near Fairford
POLICE and the Fire Service have launched an investigation into a blaze which hit a luxury pad at an exclusive Cotswold second home development.
Officers said the cause of the fire, which swept through a timber and glass lakeside lodge at Coln Park, between Fairford and Lechlade, was 'unknown'.
The holiday home was being built by firm Lakes by Yoo which is developing the up-market 650-acre site, off the A417, near Cirencester.
Fire broke out at 3am yesterday morning.
Nearly 20 firefighters battled for 12 hours, pumping water from the lake, to get it under control.
The three-bedroom property, worth at least £750,000 was due to be completed early next year.
No-one was injured in the blaze.
A police spokesman said: "The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and further investigations will be taking place today with police officers and a fire investigator."
The house owners, who are not from Gloucestershire, have been notified.
Anyone with any information that could help the investigation is urged to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
