Jose calls for shopwatch to target thieves
CINDERFORD shop owner Jose Carlos says he wants to set up a shop watch scheme after repeated thefts from his store.
Jose, who runs Bom Dia in the town's Triangle, has had hundreds of pounds worth of stock stolen from his town centre store since it opened almost four months ago.
"Nothing's been set up yet. I want to see how the other shop keepers are feeling," said Jose.
"They used to be able to have pictures of known thieves behind shop counters but I think that's considered harassment now and it's illegal.
"But it has got to the stage where we go to replace an item on the shelf and find three or four others are missing."
Among the items stolen from Bom Dia include baby clothes and three small LCD TVs worth £80 each.
Two suspected thieves have been arrested at the store but others have got away.
Forest chief inspector Phil Haynes said: "I would support a shopwatch scheme and I'd be surprised if it hadn't been considered before.
"In the city, shops keep in touch with each other via radio and if someone is banned from one shop, they are banned from them all."
