Keighley family celebrate a unique double
RACEHORSE trainer Martin Keighley is celebrating an extraordinary double double.
After his wife Belinda gave birth to their second child Harry on Friday, the next runner from their stable in Luckley – King Ozzy – was a winner.
Exactly the same thing happened two years ago when Belinda had their first son Freddie and only hours later Rodrigo Gonzales powered to victory.
And after King Ozzy's success two days ago, the Keighley team were celebrating yet again after Deep Reflection won at Worcester yesterday.
"It's been a brilliant few days, really exciting," said Martin.
"We'll have to keep having babies!"
While King Ozzy won easily, Martin and Belinda were given a scare by Harry after he was born at Cheltenham General.
It took him a minute to start breathing and he was transferred to the Special Care Unit for observation.
He rejoined his mum on the main ward on Sunday and Martin hopes they will be allowed home tomorrow.
Unlike Harry, King Ozzy gave the Keighleys nothing to worry about as he won under Richard Johnson at Bangor.
The 11-2 chance won by 11 lengths from Missamon, with stable mate Le Brocqoy in third.
Martin said: "He was in a handy position over the first few fences and then jumped to the front and got into a lovely rhythm.
"He made all the running and cruised home – he didn't come off the bridle.
"The soft ground was in his favour and was against Le Brocquy, who still ran well.
"We'll have a look to see what races are around for King Ozzy now, but I wouldn't risk him on quick ground."
King Ozzy, owned by the Black Pearl Racing Club, was Keighley's fourth winner of the jumps season.
He had the best season of his career so far in 2009-10 when he trained 27 winners, including three at Cheltenham.
