Keith the Severn seal safe - for now
A ROGUE grey seal who popped up in the Severn after swimming up swollen rivers will not be shot by the Angling Trust.
The Trust has said it doesn't intend to shoot the female seal, named Keith by locals, despite applying for a licence to shoot the animal as it was affecting fish stocks in the river.

It had been spotted hunting up stream since coming in on flood waters late last year.
Mark Lloyd, chief executive of the Angling Trust, said the application was a ploy in the best interests of the seal.

“Alas the countryside will never make any tourist bucks as long as this hunting, shooting and fishing savagery continues. We have enough trouble trying to convince visitors to the area with the boar and badger culling. Its the 21st Century and we need to attract people to the area for its wild beauty and promote it as a sanctuary for both humans and animals alike in these ever more stressful and urbanised society.”

“A wise decision as Seals are Wild Mammals.
Fish are just there to amuse the Anglers.”

“I would have thought that getting the seal to her natural environment would have been the first option!”
