Kickboxing classes on offer for kids in Abbeydale
DISCIPLINE, confidence and fitness are three of the key ideals youngsters can pick up from learning kickboxing at Abbeydale Community Centre.
The Edge Martial Arts specialise in sport and freestyle kickboxing in Gloucester. Instructor James Perkins says kickboxing is a perfect way for children to take up a new sport, particularly if they have been inspired to get involved in martial arts after watching the London Olympics.

“Newsflash: Noble artist slaughters clowns. LOL.”

“My considered opinion of boxing is that it is the noble art and nothing like the street trash alternative of (e.g) Tai Kwon Do, the embarrassment of the Olympics.
Besides, a half decent boxer would slaughter any of these clowns in double quick time.”

“Pebbles, just how often do you read of muggers using kickboxing techniques to attack their victims? It is common for muggers to punch their victims. It is also common for them to kick their victims whilst they are on the ground, even unconcious. I can't recall ever reading of a kickboxing mugging, though.
At the beginning of 2009, a kickboxer (Stuart Ballinghall) killed another man in Gloucester, but he wasn't even the only person involved and he may well also have used a weapon. He was also an ex soldier, so it could just as easily be argued that he carried out the murder because he had been trained to kill as a soldier. Boxers have also been known to attack other people. I still await your considered opinion of boxing.”

“No, it teaches them how to kick someone in the head from distance at little risk to themselves which cannot be regarded as self defence.”

“It teaches them discipline, Pebbles. Do you have the same opinion of regular boxing, or is it just modern sports such as kickboxing that you object to?”

“Nothing like teaching the young how to be more effective muggers.”
