PUPILS have been learning about the importance of being fighting fit to battle obesity.

Youngsters at Tuffley Primary School have been taking part in a Healthy Schools campaign all week.

It began when children, parents and staff scaled a climbing wall.

The school was visited by Blue Triangle martial arts, which offered free taster sessions. Jane's Pantry also turned up with breads, carrot cake and a variety of fruits and pasta.

Fencing was Wednesday's activity and all children were given the opportunity to dress up in fencing clothing and practice their footwork and thrusting.

"All the children thoroughly enjoyed their session," said Sue Oldham, business manager at the school.

On Thursday, the school played Rock-It-Ball, which is a children's version of lacrosse and youngsters worked out with Gloucester Gymnastics Academy.

To finish the active week, the school held a sports morning.
