CHILDREN took their local library by storm yesterday to celebrate World Book Day.

Pupils from Harewood Junior School visited Tuffley library dressed as their favourite book characters.

Library manager Mary Atkins said all the children had a great time.

"It was fantastic," she said. "We had kids dressed as Harry Potter, Where's Wally, SpongeBob SquarePants and James Bond."

She also stressed the importance of people getting into reading at a young age.

She added: "World Book Day is great in that it highlights the importance of reading.

"We read the children stories and showed them around the library.

"Hopefully they have been enthused on their trip and hopefully their imagination has been stimulated too.

"It really is great if they can start reading when they are young."
