RESIDENTS in Kingsholm are being asked about parking problems near their homes.

People living in five streets have been contacted following a number of complaints about drivers causing misery when rugby matches are on.

Those in Dean's Way, Dean's Walk, St Catherine Street, St Mark Street, and Edwy Parade are being consulted over possible solutions.

Margery Poffley, of Dean's Way, has received a letter asking her about parking problems and possible solutions.

She said St Mark Street already had a permit scheme and believed the council was looking to help residents in other areas because of rugby parking in particular.

"Cars are moving more and more up the street," she said.

"I just want to make people aware that if it comes to permit parking it's not guaranteed that we'll have parking outside our homes."

She added: "It might stop commuters and footballers and rugby watchers but I want people to know, when they reply, that if we get a parking permit scheme it does not mean we are guaranteed a space outside our house, just somewhere in the street.

"And if we want visitors we'd have to have visitor spaces or pay for visitor permits. I don't think parking is as simple as it sounds."

Gloucestershire parking manager Jim Daniels said: "We have written to people in the Kingsholm area to explain that some residents have told the council that there is a parking problem.

Concerns

"Before we act on any concerns, it is standard procedure to go out and ask the whole community if a problem exists and what the nature of that problem might be.

"This letter isn't about parking permits but simply asks for feedback from all the residents on the parking issues that might be affecting them.

"We value the opinions of the whole community and would urge people to respond and provide honest feedback, good or bad. We can then decide what, if anything, the council can do to help."
