FREDDIE Burns' knee injury should only sideline him for two weeks – just as Gloucester boss Nigel Davies expected.

England boss Stuart Lancaster has confirmed that Burns will miss the Six Nations kick-off, against Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday, February 2.

But the 22-year-old fly-half should still be fit for the majority of the tournament, as his left knee medial ligament damage is not serious.

Burns limped out of Saturday's 36-16 Mont de Marsan victory after 12 minutes, with rugby director Davies hoping afterwards the knee knock would only be a recurrence of a pre-season complaint.

That is how it has proved, leaving England and Gloucester bosses relieved.

Lancaster explained: "Burns' knee injury is nowhere near as bad as it could have been, and that's very positive.

"He'll miss a couple of weeks but no more than that."

Gloucester's forwards coach Carl Hogg said the news on Burns is a boost.

Hogg added: "It's great news on Freddie, I'm sure he'll be as relieved as anyone."

“...But didn't you know? The troll KAF1960/akadau/Kap721/glawsteruk1/etc, reckons he knows better than the rugby-wise professional coach and DoR of Gloucester Rugby.”

“Nigel Davies picks the team. He has a choice of tight heads, yet, when it comes to the key games, he always goes for Harden. QED.”

“The facts speak fro themselves. Rupert Harden is ND's first choice tight head. Harden is light years of any competitor for the number 3 shirt.”

“So long as Rupert Harden, our top rated tight head, is back for the Premiership games in his starting role, that is all that matters going forward.”

“I am looking forward to the return of Rupert Harden, our classiest and first choice tight head. It will good to see our scrum gain its full power and to see it pushing around the opposition scrum for a change; something that we haven't seen for several weeks whilst Rupert has been out injured.”

“Rupert Harden has 9 starts in premiership games for Gloucester this season, plus another two. That makes him the top rated tight head at Gloucester in anyone's books.”
