A LECKHAMPTON charity shop that raises funds for Macmillan and the County Air Ambulance may have to close if volunteers can't be found.

The Daisychain Benevolent Fund, in Bath Road, opened last June.

It has been inundated with donations ever since and is attracting shoppers, but does not have enough volunteers to staff the shop.

Manager Claire Carver is desperate to find people who are willing to lend support. She said: "We have had so many donations of clothes and books and all sorts of other items, which I'm incredibly grateful for.

"Without the support of others, there's only me to open and close the shop and see to the administrative as well as practical side of things.

"I don't want donations to be in a store cupboard. I need them to be out and ready for sale.

"It's a crying shame and means the targets we should be hitting just aren't being reached.

"If we carry on like this we're in danger of shutting.

Claire has one helper every day from a small team of volunteers, but she says she needs two or three.

"It's a pretty desperate situation and I just hope people can see the good we're trying to do for such worthy causes," she said.

"I don't want to have to turn away donations either because there isn't any room left to store things.

"I can't process it all on my own. It's not an ideal situation but I'm determined to make it work.

"I just need that little bit of help that some residents with some time on their hands may be able to give. I know those who do volunteer get a lot out of it and their help really is invaluable."

The shop is open from 9.30am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Anyone who is willing to help should contact Claire on 01242 231108.
