THE Abbey Dressage autumn/winter unaffiliated dressage championship series reached its halfway point at a meeting that saw some excellent performances drawing high marks.

Alicia Lee on the veteran Bobby scored the best mark of the day with a huge 80 percent score to win the restricted section of the first walk and trot/prelim 12 pick and mix class. Also showing that age is no barrier, Sophie Russell and the 30 year old Huggy Bear were winners in the open section with another high score of 73.91 percent.

Jenny Lawrey scored 69.57 percent with Boris in a prelim 15 test to win the second walk and trot/prelim open class, with Kirsty Chaplin and Sweet Pea winning the restricted section.

Janine Collishaw, on Edwin Col, produced another 72 percent score in a novice 28 test to win the first open pick and mix class, just three marks ahead of Teresa Ventimiglia on Charlie Brown. Completing the day with a winning novice 35 test was Sue May and Murphy in the second pick and mix class.

Two second places helped Teresa Ventimiglia establish a six point lead at the top of the open championship table, with Loretta Adams with Whisper and Shirley Powell on Retama tied in second. Alicia Lee's win combined with another second gives her a healthy 13 point lead in the restricted championship, ahead of June Blakeway on Red. Hannah Ashton and the ex-racehorse Arnie are the leaders in the Racehorse to Riding Horse championship.

The next round of the series at the Fiddington venue is on December 5. Details www.abbeydressage.co.uk or 01684 293206.
