Lets join together for Gloucester Day
"LET us show the country how proud we are of our city."
That's the message from Gloucester town crier Alan Myatt, who is organising this year's Gloucester Day celebrations.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 4, kicking off at 2pm.
It will feature a parade through the four gate streets of the city led by the Mayor and the Sheriff of Gloucester.
It will be followed by a reception at the Brunswick Baptist Church in Southgate Street.
The parade will mark only the second time the Gloucester Day celebrations have been held in the modern era.
The event dates back to the 17th Century to celebrate the lifting of the siege of Gloucester 1643.
Now Alan wants to see the event used to instil civic pride back into the residents of the city.
He was responding to a survey carried out on the website of Channel 4's Relocation Relocation show, which listed Gloucester as the 10th worst location to live in the UK.
Alan said: "I was stunned to hear the rubbish put on that website.
"Gloucester is a fantastic place, with great people, and we need to let people know how proud we are of it."
Now he wants to get local businesses involved in the Gloucester Day celebrations, and has written to groups across the city.
Parade
He said: "The Gloucester Day committee and myself want to encourage everyone to play their part and join the parade.
"It will help in raising the morale of the citizens in these uncertain economic times, and will draw attention to this great city by helping to install pride in its institutions."
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the event should e-mail Alan at alanmyatt@blueyonder.co.uk, or call him on 07973 472896.

“Gloucester has been turned into a grotty little town and I suspect that the town crier is trying to drum up some work for himself.
Paul James and the rest of his cronies on the City Council would love to bulldoze the entire city centre and turn it into a car park for the "historic docks"
Gloucester is soulless and devoid of inspiration and individuality.”

“glos''hum now lets see, building new flats eh' on top of roman archives, pricing units out of market by doubling rent, instead of helping and decressing it,but we all know its going to be a car park for the 1.2 cars for the flats... there is going to be nothing left of gloucesters history to celebrate soon..good luck al you will need it”

“Hmmm, is it rubbish or the truth about how people actually feel about Gloucester that¿s written on the website?! It¿s a good thing to do putting on the parade, but for some reason there seems to be a large proportion of the population in Gloucester that don¿t give a stuff and show nothing in the way of civic pride. It¿s a shame, but I think Gloucester¿s, overall feeling of being abit rundown and not much in the way of culture or buzz has been the dominant force in Gloucester for so long now its very hard to shake it off”
