BUSINESS Minister Dr Vince Cable met apprentices and graduates when he visited GE Aviation at Bishop's Cleeve yesterday afternoon.

Dr Cable was taken on a tour by GE Aviation's site leader Alan Jones and the president of GE UK, Mark Elborne, stopping to chat to employees.

He discussed the state of the business, which provides jet and turboprop engines and components and the company's extensive apprentice and graduate schemes.

    “Why did Vince choose to visit a private school (Cheltenham Ladies School) and not an excellent local school such as Balcaras? And whilst on this subject why can Cheltenham Ladies School manage to get such esteemed guests (Vince, Shami Chakrabarti, Sarah Winckless to name but a few) but our local schools do not?”
