Those words, spoken by jazz immortal Gary Burton, set the seal on the career of the star set for Cheltenham's Victory Club tomorrow night.
Mind you, Roger did struggle a while for critical acclaim, but the vibes man achieved it in spades with the 1980s band The Chevalier Bros.
"We changed people's perceptions. We made it possible to have fun and listen to jazz," he said.
