Linden vicarage redevelopment gets go-ahead

Angry residents have lost their battle to stop the redevelopment of a former vicarage.

The Frampton Road vicarage site, in Linden, will be cleared to make way for 10 flats for homeless young people, five 'affordable' houses and a new vicarage for St Paul's Church.

But neighbour Maggie Goodchild, a resident for 30 years, said the new vicarage would invade her privacy.

"The vicarage now appears to only have a side entrance alongside my property," she said. "I fear it will cause extra disturbance to my house."

Liam Moynihan, of Lysons Avenue, said: "The building of a car park at the end of my garden will completely invade and ruin the privacy of my home and garden.

"Having people coming and going at all times of day and night just 15 metres outside mine and my daughter's bedrooms will destroy the peace and quiet we enjoy."

But their fears were dismissed by Gloucester City Council's planning committee which, on Tuesday, unanimously voted in favour of the redevelopment plans by Rooftop Housing.

One consolation for residents will be that one of the flats will be a 24 hour management office, looking after the young people.

And restrictions have been placed on what extensions can be made to the vicarage in the future.
