Live Quays event will help crack violence towards women
VIOLENCE against women and girls will come under the microscope at Gloucester Quays on Thursday as Gloucestershire Police get behind an awareness campaign.
The One Billion Rising event is taking place at Mariners Chapel, between 12pm and 2pm, and aims to highlight the problem of violence towards women and girls.
Gender equality activist Thangam Debbonaire will be talking about her work in preventing violence and protecting survivors. There will also be live music, readings and dance.
On average 12 people are identified as being at high risk of domestic abuse every week in Gloucestershire.

Strategic County Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Co-ordinator for Gloucestershire Police Faye Kamara said: "We fully support this event and its aims.
"We're also very eager to get across the message that men are often victims too.
"1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will be a victim of domestic abuse during their lifetime.
"Here in the county we have great facilities such as the Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Support Service and the Sexual Abuse Referral Centre, which both offer key support services for victims of domestic and sexual abuse."
Councillor Kate Haigh, Labour leader on Gloucester City Council and event organiser, said: "Women and men all over the world will be rising to say that we will no longer tolerate violence in our homes, in our relationships and in our lives."
