Longlevens pupils span decades in display
LONGLEVENS: PUPILS and staff at Longlevens Infant School
went back through the years to celebrate its 70th
anniversary.
With fancy dress covering all the decades from the 1930s to
the present, the children made the most of the
celebrations.
There were 1940s wartime outfits as well as peace-loving
hippies from the '70s and jive dancers from the '60s.
Three former pupils who went to the school when it opened in
1938 also joined the party and watched as a commemorative
mosaic was unveiled to mark the anniversary.
The mosaic showing the school and children playing was made
by artist Karen Wones, who was helped by pupils.
Karen said: “We had more than 300 pupils who each put at
least one piece in the mosaic and helped to design it.
“It is a big project to do but it has been great – they have
all taken pride in their work and all know which pieces are
theirs.”
Karen Hamblin, creative arts co-ordinator at the school,
said: “All the children loved it and lots of parents came along
too. We all had a giant tea party in the afternoon topped off
with ice creams.”
